"Cheat Meals"

As the year is coming to an end and most everyone plans to celebrate Christmas and the new year, I've been asked about nutrition quite a bit. Specifically, what my daily diet looks like. It seems most people believe that personal trainers eat nothing but chicken breast and broccoli. And the moment we have a slice of pizza or cake we punish ourselves with burpees.

Thats why I decided to share this pizza. This is something that my wife and I enjoy up to once or twice a week. It isn't a planned "cheat meal" or "treat meal" its simply something we have when we are craving pizza. We don't like the idea of cheats or treats because of what it implies: food is more than fuel. If we believe that this is a cheat meal, then it can cause guilt because I'm not eating "clean". If we think of it as a treat, then food is more than food. It becomes a reward, a source of emotion, good or bad.

So, this is merely a meal. If/when you crave pizza or pasta...have some! Just be aware of what type of fuel you're having and adjust accordingly. My suggestion to have it at home, that way you know exactly what goes into your pizza. Ours has: one pita bread, tomato sauce, one and half slices of cheese, oregano, garlic, grilled onions and grilled chicken breast, that's it. And then, adjust your diet accordingly. Have a lighter dinner or lunch depending when you had the pizza. Oh, and please don't over do it, limit your portions.
